Another year, been and gone, and what a year it has been for all at 2nd Rothwell!
The year kicked off with two camps at the beginning of January – indoors for the Cubs, and the Brass Monkey challenge for the Scouts. In this month we also celebrated our 60th anniversary, inviting previous members of the group to share their memories over afternoon tea.
The rest of the first term was filled with activities and learning opportunities for our young people, leading up to the St George’s Day Parade and Award’s Ceremony …

Following the retirement of Sandra Dainty, who has served 2nd Rothwell so well and for so long, we finished the Summer Term without a Beaver Leader.
I am happy to announce that Zoe Irwin, who has children in our Group, has accepted the role and as of the September term will be our Beaver Leader.
I’m sure Zoe will be a great asset to 2nd Rothwell, and I hope you will all wish Zoe the best in her role and help to support her as much as possible.

2nd Rothwell is 60th years young on the 8th July!
As a celebration, we decided to have an occasional badge designed for the Group to wear for a year, and to also have designed a permanent badge to wear forever on our neckers.
Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Leaders were all asked to come up with designs.
The best two were sent for professional rendering, and the designs have now been approved by County, District and out Executive Committee.
The winning design for the year long occasional badge was by Badger, one of our Beaver …

Hi,
We’ve had several of you asking about the hoodies that some of the Leaders wear.
Well now you can have one too… and you can have your name down the arm…
On top of this you can also get polo shirts with the group name and Scouting logo on which can also be personalised.
The link for these is in the middle of the menu bar above.

Note: No profit is made by 2nd Rothwell on these items.

As many of you will be aware, long serving 2nd Rothwell supporter Alan Mason stepped down from his role as Chairman in January.
Alan has had many roles in the Group and all of us wholeheartedly thank him for the years of service he has given us.
After some head scratching, I decided that although there were some people who I knew well that could take up the mantle of Chairman, I thought we should have someone who has not been a Leader as our next Chairperson.
Someone who will see things from …

Two of our Leaders were last night lucky enough to visit Troop 728 in Manhattan, New York.
They talked with the Cubs, Scouts and Leaders about what UK Scouting looks like and we discovered some very close similarities.
They were able to confirm to one of the Cubs that “Yes, we have Bananas in the UK!”
The two Leaders presented Troop 728 with a framed set of badges and were in turn presented with gifts back.

Thank you to Troop 728 for your hospitality, and as Terry put it, “I hope this is the …

On Saturday 24th September, as part of the Cubs100 celebrations, 2nd Rothwell S.A Cubs joined in one of the takeover days at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.

“The baby Elephant was so cute” said the girls.
A great time was had by all joining in with Cubs from all over the region to see the amazing work ZSL do with the animals.
They even got up real close and personal with some of the animals.

A great day was had by all, but it was a little too much for some.

On the fay of the Patron Saint of Scouting, St George’s Day, 19 Scouts turned out to help clean up their environment.
In all around 16 bags full of litter were collected for three of the four parks in Rothwell, which included the base of a road cone, a broken chair and two fire extinguishers.
The Scouts looked and felt very accomplished afterwards and celebrated their hard work by climbing a tree together.

Well done Scouts!
